Making Disciples

Discipleship for Children Pre-K – 6th Grade

The Gospel, the Good News, for our children is that God—the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit—loves them with an everlasting love. For this reason, He has gifted them with the Sacraments of Initiation (Baptism, Confirmation, Eucharist) through which they may enter into a covenant of love relationship with Him and become disciples of Jesus Christ.

In Baptism, the Holy Trinity makes disciples of our children by removing original sin and forgiving actual sins, giving them new hearts and new spirits, and giving them His Spirit to be with them now and forever, if they want Him to be.

In preparation for their First Holy Communion—the Eucharist—our children learn to observe all that Jesus commands us to do, so that they can love the Holy Trinity, all people, and care for creation the way He made them to. They also learn that the Holy Mass and Sacrifice of the Eucharist is how they make their covenant of love relationship with the Holy Trinity official and remain in love with Him for the rest of their lives.

In Confirmation, our children complete their Baptism by saying “Yes!” to their covenant of love relationship with the Holy Trinity for themselves. They also learn how faithfully observing the New Covenant Commandments of Love not only sustains their covenant of love relationship with the Holy Trinity but also makes them taste like salt and shine like light in the world to attract more people to become disciples of Jesus.

Children in need of the Sacraments of Initiation may register here. (Spanish)

From Pre-K – 6th grade, our children prepare for and receive these Sacraments of Initiation by participating in Discipleship classes in our Parish Hall from 10:30-11:45 AM most Sundays from September – May. We use the Diocese of Baker approved curriculum Alive in Christ published by Our Sunday Visitor for this preparation. Each classroom has two adult volunteers who have completed a background check and the Diocese of Baker safe environment training. You may register here for Discipleship classes. Or you may register online.

Discipleship for Junior and Senior High

The Gospel—the Good News—for our junior and senior high disciples of Jesus is that the Holy Trinity loves them more than they can imagine, and He has shown this to be true in salvation history and by freely entering a covenant of love relationship with them through the Holy Mass and the sacraments. Our challenge is to communicate what this means for their personal lives, relevantly and effectively.

For our junior high disciples, 7th-8th grade, we strive to do this with the use of YDisciple; a well-researched and results-driven multi-media approach to sharing the Gospel with this age group https://ydisciple.com/.

We aim at relevance and effectiveness with our high school disciples, 9th-12 grade, by engaging them in dynamic Bible and Catechism conversations that apply to their everyday lives and relationships. Additionally, they learn how to discern their personal spiritual gifts for service to the Church and people in our community.

Currently, our junior and senior high disciples meet in our Parish Hall from 10:30-11:45 AM on most Sundays, September – May. Each classroom has two adult volunteers who have completed a background check and the Diocese of Baker safe environment training.

You may register here for junior or senior high youth. Or you may register online.

Discipleship for Adults

Adults already in full communion with the Catholic Church (those who have received the sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation, and Eucharist) grow in faith, hope, love, and the other virtues, and become more effective disciples of Christ Jesus by learning and practicing our Catholic faith and life more deeply. At St. Pius X, adults may grow in a variety of ways in women’s, men’s, and mixed study and fellowship ministries. Click on tabs for more information.

Order of Christian Initiation of Adults and Children (OCIA)

Adults and children (ages 9 and above), who have not yet become disciples of Christ Jesus or have not yet been fully initiated in the Catholic Church, may do so by registering for and participating in the Order of Christian Initiation of Adults and Children (OCIA).

In OCIA, catechumens and candidates learn that through Baptism and Confirmation the Holy Trinity makes them disciples of Christ Jesus by removing original sin and forgiving actual sins, giving them new hearts and new spirits, and giving them His Spirit to enter a covenant of love relationship with them. They also learn the New Covenant Commandments of Love through observance of which they may faithfully love God, all people, and care for creation the way the Holy Trinity created them to, Additionally, they come to understand that through the Holy Mass and consuming the Sacrifice of the Eucharist they make their covenant of love relationship with the Holy Trinity official and remain in His love for the rest of their lives. Finally, this all becomes reality for them during the celebration of the Most Holy Easter Vigil!

You may register here for OCIA (Adults) (Children).
